Amazon Superfoods

& Consultancy Company

The Amazon Superfoods & Consultancy Company is based in Iquitos, which is an isolated frontier city situated in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. The company was established in 2019 to:

  • Promote and market products of the abundant natural & organic medicinal food plants (also called Superfoods) growing in the rainforest for profit-sharing with participating local and indigenous communities;

  • Implement consultancy services and business opportunities for national and international organizations and clients; and

  • Facilitate for NGO’s, humanitarian & development aid organizations and entrepreneurs, in their quest to invest for profit-sharing or non-profit in the development and protection of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest and its people, which has a unique but threatened wealth of biological and ethnocultural diversity.

Mission of the Superfoods Project (extended version)

Our mission is to provide health & life-enhancing, delicious & nutritious Superfoods to anyone, anywhere on the planet, from our location deep in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, where these endemic medicinal food plants are growing (except the Superfoods from the Peruvian Andean Mountain Region, also sold by the company). Customers will thus enjoy an improved quality of life, in all its stages, by consuming our sustainably cultivated & harvested Superfood products that have exceptionally high nutritious contents of essential vitamins, proteins and minerals, omega rich oils, dietary fibers and unrivaled quantities of antioxidants, nowhere else to be found on Mother Earth.

Our 100 % natural & organic Superfood products can help customers and their families to boost their immunity systems against e.g. global viral attacks, increase energy, improve brain function and memory, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, maintain a healthy weight & lifestyle and even having an extended lifespan. At the same time the customers assist, by buying the products, in the protection of the biological and ethnocultural diversity of the Amazon Rainforest and are thereby part of the company´s benefit-sharing program, which aims at improving the well-being, livelihoods and way of life of the participating indigenous communities. Issues that are of key importance for the company´s overall mission and vision.

The objectives of the Amazon Superfoods & Consultancy Company are four-fold:

1. To work for conservation, sustainable utilization and value-adding of Amazon Rainforest natural non-timber resources, whereby indigenous and local people benefit from harvesting, processing and selling their products on local and international markets, facilitated by the company for sustainable management and benefit-sharing. Special focus is on the health & life-enhancing medicinal food plants, so called “Superfoods”, which are endemic to the Amazon Rainforest. These resources are underutilized and have a great potential for significantly improving the livelihoods of jungle dwelling communities.

2. To assist charity and philanthropic NGO´s in providing humanitarian aid and multilevel education/training for vulnerable groups in the Amazon Rainforest watershed area as well as for people living in poverty and despair in marginalized areas of urban Iquitos, with special focus on the needs of women, children and indigenous communities.

3. Import to the Peruvian Amazon, and other parts of Peru, high quality products and filters related to providing clean, alkaline  and ionized drinking water with the mission to improve the extremely poor health standard of the general population.

4. To assist in any other serious business interventions that benefit, directly or indirectly, the sustainable development of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest and its people.

All of these natural products are called “Superfoods” as they contain exceptionally high contents of antioxidants, minerals, proteins, vitamins, dietary fibers and essential oils not found anywhere else in the world.

Sustainable Forestry. Export sustainably harvested and certified timber and value-added wood products, specific to clients’ needs, from a variety of commercial hardwood tree species according to strict Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification regulations and chain-of-custody principles.

Humanitarian Aid. Assist humanitarian aid organizations to identify vulnerable groups living in the jungle or in poor urban areas for appropriate education & health programs and socio-economic projects aiming at achieving a better quality of life.

Auditing. Provide transparent, secure and audited management of financial resources invested by NGO’s, development aid and other business partners.

International Organizations. Act as a local representative and trustee for international humanitarian and environmental organizations as well as business partners according to clients’ specific requirements.

Furthermore, the Amazon Superfoods & Consultancy Company is cooperating with a broad network of professionals and institutions in Iquitos (NGO´s, governmental and private) in various areas, e.g. natural resources management, eco-tourism, the business community, indigenous tribes’ representatives, certified auditing, lawyers for legal advice, etc. The company is therefore in a unique position to provide contacts and guidance into the intricacies of Peruvian regulations and laws as well as providing local capacity for efficient start-up and implementation of projects and businesses. Doing business in the isolated frontier town of Iquitos can otherwise be a frustrating and tedious experience full of unexpected, costly and time-consuming side-tracks that foreigners often have to endure.

The Amazon Superfoods & Consultancy Company Team

Hans Järlind

Mr. Hans Järlind is one of two owners of the Amazon Superfoods & Consultancy Company. He is a Swedish and Peruvian forester and environmentalist living permanently in Iquitos. He came to the city in 2004 to work with a Finnish Government funded biodiversity project that was based at the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP- Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana). At IIAP he was primarily involved in developing and implementing sustainable management plans for the natural forest resources in a newly established national park (Allpahuayo-Mishana), located along a tributary of the Amazon River, in close cooperation with the indigenous communities living in that area.

When the long-term contract ended Hans decided to remain in Iquitos and make it his home. For a forester there is no other place on earth so intriguing, fascinating and mysterious as the Amazon rainforest with its abundant plant and animal life as well as its rich indigenous ethnocultural life, which Hans respectfully has reflected in his (partly self-ironic) book “Totally Confused Expert”. During the last 16 years he has however left Peru on several occasions to work in various countries in Africa and Asia on long and short-term assignments. But since some time he has made a move to focus on exploring the vast development opportunities within the renewable natural resources sector of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest for the purpose of fair trade with local communities for mutual economic benefits and environmental conservation.

Hans offers consultancy services in various forestry and environmental fields such as; reforestation of tropical forest areas with indigenous species; participatory community-based natural resource management; forestry & environmental training & education; development & implementation of REDD+, climate change/carbon sequestration & agroforestry projects.

Mr. Järlind has a MSc in Forestry (Jägmästare) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and a post-graduate Diploma in Environmental Education from the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He has more than 35 years of professional experience in natural resource management, specializing in forest education, reforestation, environmental protection, community-based natural resource management and integrated rural development. Most of his work was implemented in various countries in Africa and Asia, but also in Latin America. He is thus in a unique position to compare development approaches from a variety of countries and be able to identify best-practices and innovative solutions for eco-business endeavours. During the years Hans has worked for a variety of international NGO’s and development aid organizations, among these can be mentioned the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the European Union, the governments of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany, as well as for several international consultancy companies.

Per Örnell

Mr. Per Örnell is a Swedish citizen. He has academic degrees in Economics and Psychology/Behavioural science from the Universities of Linköping and Stockholm. Throughout his long and successful professional career he has provided consultancy services in the fields of top level management and leadership skills for several prestigious and multimillion dollar companies in the Swedish and Finnish forestry sectors.

Mr. Örnell is the company´s main investor. Without Per´s deep concern for the well-being of the Amazon Rainforest, and its people, and dedication to the short- and long term goals of the company, as well as providing the necessary financial support, the company would not have seen the light of day.
